Title: SOULPIERCER
Fandom: DC Comics
Characters/Pairings: Joey Wilson
Notes: Draws from a graceless hodgepodge of every piece of canon I've ever liked regarding Joey as a character. This mix deals with themes of suicidality and body dysmorphia. Tread with caution.

LISTEN ON YOUTUBE.

Track One: Nobody's Soldier - Hozier
Choose between being a butcher or a pauper
Honey, I'm taking no orders
I'm gonna be nobody's soldier

A man raised by soldiers with a life steeped in violence rejecting that path for himself. This one's a quintessential Joey song, in my eyes.

Track Two: Stay Soft - Mitski
Open up your heart
Like the gates of hell
You stay soft, get beaten
Only natural to harden up

Despite his inclination towards gentleness, Joey is shown to struggle with vulnerability and intimacy— he is fundamentally soft, but expressing that softness is a choice that he struggles with every single day.

Track Three: Orpheus Under the Influence - The Buttertones
You had big, big, big plans
You used to play gracefully with your mythical hands
Orpheus
Under the influence
I used to be a man that'd croon

Musicality and the arts are a huge part of Joey's character, as are struggles with identity and morality. I like the way this song touches on the latter via personification of the former.

Track Four: Northern Downpour - Panic! at the Disco
I know the world's a broken bone
But melt your headaches, call it home

The world is a mess, and he can't fix it, but he can sure as hell try. Northern Downpour is a great song about love as a melancholy, gentle thing, and Joey is my favorite melancholy, gentle thing.

Track Five: Body - Mother Mother
Oh, would you go dispose, just go dispose?
'Cause I've grown tired of this body
A cumbersome and heavy body

When you're capable of possessing people and spend very little time in your own skin, feeling a disconnection from the body is an expected consequence. Add in that he's noted to look like his father, who he has a complicated relationship with on a good day, on multiple occasions, and... yeesh. Dude's got it rough.

Track Six: Songbird - Fleetwood Mac

And I wish you all the love in the world
But most of all, I wish it from myself
And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score

I just think Joey as a character is defined by love for everything around him, and so I was drawn to songs that express that for this mix.

Track Seven: Blow My Brains Out - Tikkle Me
Unlucky me, who knows way too much
Who fights to make changes and music and such
Unlucky me, aware of the pain
All 'cause I happen to have some brain

He's marked by suffering and tragedy, and all he wants to do is create music and make the world a better place than it was before he came into it.

Track Eight: Love Love Love - The Mountain Goats
Love, love is gonna lead you by the hand
Into a quiet and soundless place
Now we see things as in a mirror dimly
Then we shall see each other face to face

Another song about love as a guiding principle and how that impacts one's worldview— he's the loverboy of all time and that's not necessarily a good thing for him!
